Your Voice in HD 37!
About Tracey Karcher
WELCOME! I’m Tracey Karcher, and I’m running to be your voice in the Montana House of Representatives for District 37.
I wasn’t born in Montana, but I got home as fast as I could. My path here has taken me through three lifetimes: working in stables and on the backstretch of racetracks, married to a fishing boat Captain, walking through widowhood and single parenting, answering the call as a United Methodist pastor, and serving as a full-time caregiver for a disabled family member. Today, I live in historic Christina, where I’ve finally put down roots and committed my life to this community.
I’m running for House District 37 because I’m a veteran of a different kind of war—the fight to survive and provide for my family. I know what it’s like to work as hard as you can, sometimes in more than one job, and still not make ends meet. I’ve wrestled with Social Security and healthcare red tape, fought for my disabled adult son’s basic needs, and felt the squeeze of a housing market that forces working families into substandard or nontraditional housing. I’m not a career politician; I’m your neighbor who is mad enough to stand up and determined enough to do something about it.
I'm running as a Democrat, but my political position is less about "party" and more about people. I am all about fiscal responsibility combined with social responsibility. I want to share the "Rule of Law" framework I will bring to the House—one rooted in professional standards, fiscal responsibility, and the common sense that defines Montana. To me, that means holding tight to our Montana values of freedom, responsibility, and independence, while having the common sense to admit that some of our systems are broken and need reform. I believe we can protect individual liberty and still make sure our neighbors aren’t left behind. Everyone has a story, and I’ve learned that we all do better when we help each other succeed.
Our 1972 Montana Constitution is the shield that protects our way of life. It was written by regular citizens to keep “Big Money” from owning our state. Today, that shield is under pressure. Senior water rights are being “streamlined” away, industrial projects threaten our aquifers, and outside corporations are circling our land for data centers and other developments. The Copper Kings may have new names, but they’re back—and they’re testing the limits of what we’ll tolerate.
I bring more than opinions; I bring lived experience fighting through bureaucracy and refusing to back down. In Helena, I will be your voice to protect our water, our property, and our dignity, and to cut through the red tape that punishes ordinary Montanans. It’s time for fresh energy and the courage to say “no” to injustice and “yes” to common-sense solutions.
I’m home now, and I’m ready to go to work for you in House District 37. I’m asking for your support—and your vote—so together we can defend our Constitution, our communities, and our Montana way of life.
Common Sense, for a change!
Leadership
Common Sense Solutions for Montana
Montana is changing. As a citizen representative, I will introduce forward-thinking ideas, challenge outdated norms, and offer creative problem-solving to find unique paths through the complex challenges we face. This approach will create lasting, sustainable solutions at the state level, that will evolve with the community’s needs. Common sense and kitchen table relationships will build upon our traditions, protect our Constitution, and our Montana way of life.
Empathetic and Insightful Leadership
Leading with a blend of empathy and strategic insight, I will craft initiatives that are not only effective but deeply human-centered. My leadership style will inspire collaboration and foster an environment where you and I work together to improve our daily lives. (That's politi-speak for "I SEE you.")
Strengthening Our State
At the core of my work is a genuine commitment to communication, community building, fostering connection, trust, and collaboration across diverse groups. This approach ensures that YOU have a seat at the table.
Strengthening our Communities
I am genuinely committed to working through issues that are unique to Lewistown and rural HB 37. If our local government seems to be working against us instead of for us, let's address the issues head on. I will fight aggressively for your say in local and state decisions that are important to YOU. I will do my absolute best to make sure YOUR voice is heard and workable solutions are found!
Success Stories
Sydney M., Marketing Operations Professional, Boone, NC
Tracey was a joy to work with and for. Her unconditional love for those she ministered to at Casting Bread Ministries was a true, living example of Christ's love. She set clear, reasonable expectations of me from the beginning of our year together. She was attentive and responsive to my needs, and was always willing to help anyone who needed it! As the Food Pantry director, she was always willing to go the extra mile to help out a client. In her words, food was the thing getting them in the door for us to show Christ's love. It was a pleasure to serve with her!
Virginia P., Pastor and Hospice Chaplain, Blowing Rock, NC
Tracey has provided exceptional pastoral ministry to the families and clients at Casting Bread Ministries. She has administrated the entire set up and guidance of the Food Pantry and crisis assistance ministry overseeing all details, from helping clients break through government red tape, to meeting the physical needs of our neighbors. She relates wonderfully to this type of ministry and people in need. She is well versed in finding needed resources for families facing financial and under employment needs.

Sand Springs, MT
We had no idea there weren't very many gas stations in the area and ended up passing through in the wee hours of the morning with only 20 miles of fuel left before we run out of gas. We came across her general store that was closed of course due to the time of the night/morning (3 AM!) but there was a sign on the door that said if you need gas call. So we made the call and even though due to the time I know we woke this poor woman up she was so nice to get dressed and come to the store to let us in to buy gas even asking "Is there anything else I can help you with"? Coming from the DC metro area I was blown away by the small town hospitality that I received at her store and cafe and highly recommend it to anyone passing through. And if you need help with genealogy she is happy to help with that too. Such a wonderful friendly woman!

It is my pleasure to recommend Tracey as a highly capable and dedicated professional. During the years I have known her, she has developed strong proficiency in communications, public relations, public speaking, and a wide range of administrative functions. She consistently demonstrates initiative, works effectively as a self-starter, and brings a high level of motivation to every task. She places a strong value on accountability and responsibility and is distinctly service oriented, taking pride in seeing every job through to an excellent result.
Tracey is also an accomplished writer, having been published in newspapers and magazines, and is also an excellent grant writer. She was enjoyable to work with, and was quick to learn any new skill asked of her.
I recommend Tracey as the future representative for HB 37 without reservation and am confident that she will be an asset to her community and to the state of Montana.
